with adidas Originals SUPERSTAR

The SUPERSTAR is a representative model of ADIDAS and is also known as a sneaker that has had close ties to the hip-hop scene since the 1980s, led by RUN DMC.

On April 11th, the event "THE ORIGINALS LOUNGE by KICKS LAB." was held at the KICKS LAB. Harajuku store, which featured the SUPERSTAR in a big way, and also featured a variety of artists selected by KICKS LAB. to perform live and DJ sets. This time, we asked five artists from the performers to appear and talk about their thoughts on the appeal and memories of the SUPERSTAR, their impressions of wearing them at the event, and their thoughts on the brand ADIDAS.

I've been wearing ADIDAS clothes since I was in elementary and junior high school, so I'm very familiar with the brand. If you've been wearing ADIDAS since you were a child, you can go out wearing them, and I still often wear ADIDAS track pants. So I have a strong impression that the brand ADIDAS itself fits B-boys.

Speaking of SUPERSTAR, it brings to mind the image of RUN DMC and other hip-hop artists of the 80s, and is exactly the kind of sneaker worn by B-boys. To be honest, I've never worn SUPERSTAR before, but when I actually tried them on today, I thought they really fit well with hip-hop fashion. I chose the black SUPERSTAR this time because I usually like wearing black clothes, so I thought these would be the perfect pair to go with that. I was also surprised at how easy they were to wear. They're comfortable to wear, and I feel like they fit my feet perfectly.

Until now, SUPERSTAR has had a strong image of being sophisticated in a good way, but after wearing them this time, I realized once again that they are easy to match with fashion, comfortable to wear, and can be paired with a casual but stylish look, which is really appealing.

The first time I noticed SUPERSTAR was when I saw a STUSSY T-shirt when I was in elementary or junior high school. The T-shirt had the STUSSY logo with "OLD SCHOOL" written on it and a picture of SUPERSTAR on it, and it looked really cool. I actually wore them for the first time when I was skateboarding, and at that time many skaters wore SUPERSTAR PRO MODEL. Also, when I think of SUPERSTAR, the first thing that comes to mind is RUN DMC, but I have a strong image of them paired with CAZAL glasses.

The appeal of SUPERSTAR is the "shell toe". The toe feels very strong and can withstand the rain, so I like that tough image.

This time, I chose the black SUPERSTAR because I live in a place close to nature, and when you live in a place like that, you choose black because you don't mind it getting dirty. I would have chosen white if I was on concrete, but with black, I can go all out on the dirt.

SUPERSTAR goes well with any style, and as I said before, I like how tough it is. Also, even though they are the same SUPERSTAR, there are some made in France and the shape is slightly different depending on the era, and each era has its own merits, which is also cool.

The current image of ADIDAS is that it is a cool, stylish brand that adults can wear, but in the past, SUPERSTAR and STAN SMITH were worn by everyone. It's not because of that, but I deliberately chose BROUGHAM, which not everyone wore. But I like the shape of SUPERSTAR, and of course I have bought it.

The image of SUPERSTAR is definitely RUN DMC. I curated the record book "KICKS LAB. presents "Bring The Kicks Back"" published by KICKS LAB. two years ago, and I chose records in which RUN DMC was wearing SUPERSTAR.

If I had to sum up the appeal of SUPERSTAR in one word, it would be "the royal road of the royal road". When it comes to ADIDAS sneakers, I think SUPERSTAR is what comes to mind. And when it comes to ADIDAS sneakers worn by B-boys, SUPERSTAR is what comes to mind.

Today I chose a white SUPERSTAR to go with the T-shirt I made for the release of "KICKS LAB. presents "Bring The Kicks Back"". SUPERSTARs go well with any outfit, and what's great about them is that they can be worn by anyone, whether you're a vintage clothing lover, a B-boy, or someone into street culture.

I've been playing soccer since I was a kid, so when I think of ADIDAS, I think of their cleats. I also wore an ADIDAS jersey that I bought at the supermarket when I was in elementary school. But I had the impression that ADIDAS was a bit better than other sports brands.

When I was in my second year of junior high school, the sneakers that were popular at the time were STAN SMITH and SUPERSTAR. There were two factions, but I was a SUPERSTAR faction. The STAN SMITH faction was a little more popular (laughs). At that time, I didn't know anything about the history of SUPERSTAR, and I didn't know about RUN DMC, but I didn't think I was a STAN SMITH. The name SUPERSTAR was cool. I also liked the shape of the toe (= shell toe).

I bought a white SUPERSTAR at that time, so today I chose a color that brings back memories. The shoes I wore in my second year of junior high school had gold tongues, but the "SUPERSTAR 82" I'm wearing today has a different tongue color, but the shape and feel are quite similar.

As I said before, the appeal of SUPERSTAR is the name, right? Just wearing them makes you invincible. Because people say, "What shoes? Oh, it's SUPERSTAR!" (laughs). When you think about it, it's a really great name. The fact that the first sneakers I chose for myself when I was in junior high school were SUPERSTAR means a lot to me.

BAKU

I think it was when I was in high school, but I really wanted a pair of genuine leather SUPERSTARs that a senior or someone else was wearing, but they were already too expensive at the time and I couldn't buy them. I was wearing STAN SMITH shoes, but I had always wanted a pair of genuine leather SUPERSTARs, and I still really want one.

After that, I think I was around 18 or 19 years old, and I saw some anime drawn by a graffiti writer, and I saw some really cool fat laces. I was inspired by them, so I paired my SUPERSTAR with fat laces. I think that was the first SUPERSTAR I wore. Then, there was a collaboration between SUPERSTAR and a shop called THREE TIDES TATTOO in Osaka. The model "SS PURE" was a groundbreaking sneaker that didn't even have three lines and had graphics of the wind god and thunder god on the side. I really liked it, so I wore it.

Speaking of SUPERSTAR, RUN DMC and my friend, graffiti writer TABOO1, like to wear them. I thought that if you wear SUPERSTAR, you have to be knowledgeable about hip-hop or you might get criticized for wearing them. I thought that SUPERSTAR is a sneaker that you can't wear half-heartedly. That's how high SUPERSTAR ranks in my mind.

I often buy ADIDAS jerseys as a set. Today, I chose the yellow SUPERSTAR because it's a color I've never seen before, but also because I wanted to match it with this gold jersey.

I'm too dominated by the image of RUN DMC, but I think SUPERSTAR is the coolest combination with a jersey. No other model can do this. I've worn some other models of ADIDAS, such as CAMPUS, but SUPERSTAR is probably the most hip-hop.
