HISTORY OF VANS:
The Vans brand was founded in 1966 in Anaheim, California by brothers Paul and Jim Van Doren, along with their business partners Gordon Lee and Serge Delia.
The phrase "House of Vans" was established in the early 1970s by skaters who liked the rough style and high grip soles of VANS. Many skaters started wearing Vans and the brand became known throughout Southern California.
In 1982, the Classic Slip-On became known outside the United States when actor Sean Penn wore them in the film Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
In 1987, the company went bankrupt due to excessive variations in its lineup and increased debt, but Paul Van Doren returned as president and succeeded in cutting costs while maintaining the quality of the shoes, and within three years the company was able to get back on track and make a new start. The following year, in 1988, the company regained momentum by releasing its first signature skate shoe, the Steve Caballero.
Since 1995, he has been focusing on activities related to music, sports, and fashion, and has formed partnerships with event sponsors and street brands.
With annual global sales exceeding $1 billion in 2011, Vans has become the world's largest action sports brand, achieving unprecedented success for a company with roots in skateboarding.
